Software are the main thing in a computer. Software is the general term for information that’s recorded onto some kind of medium. The operating system software makes the computer perform its basic operational functions. Our computer is a hardware device that reads software too. Most of the software on our computer comes in the form of programs. A program consists of instructions that tell the computer what to do, how to behave. Software is as critical to computers as breathing is to humans. Fortunately, an extremely wide variety of software programs are available that make possible the preparation of virtually any kind of computer product.These are the best ten softwares of 2007. their main functions are also mentioned along their headings.

1. Mac OS X Leopard (Operating system, most improved)

Leopard is the fifth major update to Mac OS X . When Apple delayed its release nervousness were there in all people. When it released it didn’t disappointed anyone. They added 300 more features and included many functions which we were waiting. Mac OS has always been more stable, always been less vulnerable to viruses, and now it even runs Windows. The file structure is much simpler. New application properties can be used to determine if an application is running and whether it is frontmost. Even simply deleting an application is easier.

2. Google Gears (Firefox extension for offline web access, new)

Google gears is launched by Google. Google launched an open source browser extension for IE and Firefox called Google Gears that enables web applications to be available offline. Google gears is an open source project that enables more powerful web applications, by adding new features to your web browser. It enables web applications to be available offline. Web applications bring your data online and make it available anywhere there’s an Internet connection. But it happens when we are on a plane or when you can’t find a WiFi hotspot. It is a glimpse at the future of working in our web browser.

This version is the best for the average users. Gutsy includes built-in WPA detection, ie it can read/write windows drivers, quick multimedia setup and built-in Compiz fusion for customizing our desktop.

This is another product from Google. Gmail, is one of the mostly used web based mail. Google has introduced anti- virus capability to Gmail. Gmail’s translation messages include a lot of references to features that were tested and might be released to the public. Among them some of their features are they skip the spam as an action of spam filter. Information about the login details are also visible. We can communicate with our friends from the main screen(Inbox). The Inbox size allocated are free for members and can have unlimited storage.

Microsoft Office 2007 packs more improvements into the world’s leading application suite than any previous upgrade. Previously hard-to-find features now easier to explore. Word embraces basic desktop publishing tools. Excel formulas are easier to reference and the PowerPoint presentations are more attractive. Outlook improves task and time management and improved integration throughout the applications. It was a better launch for Microsoft Office 2007. We can adjust the brightness of images, for instance, and add 3D effects such as drop shadows and glows to pictures and charts. And many of the features that might appear new are simply easier to stumble upon in the new interface

7. VMWare Fusion (Mac virtualization, new)

9. Zoho Suite (Internet television streamer, new)

The Zoho Office Suite is a web office suite which includes editing documents, spreadsheets, presentations (and way more) better and easier straight from your browser. Being web-native, all Zoho applications are operating system independent. Zoho has been a busy company. Over the past two years they’ve launched 12 applications along with 4 utilities, nearly all with APIs. The suite will will come in a Free and Pro version, mirroring Google’s offer. Zoho will include all 12 of their collaboration programs that is chat, email, planner, wiki, crm, project manager, etc.
